Palm Sunday
Hey boys and girls. I hope you are all doing
well. I know it’s not easy being stuck at home right now, but everyone is
trying to be extra careful. With everything that is going on, you might be a
little worried sometimes. That’s ok. Sometimes we deal with scary things. The good
news is, we don’t face them alone. There is someone who is always with us, no
matter what. I bet you know who that is.
God.
No matter what we face in life, God knows right where we are, and He is looking out for us. The Bible says,
"The Lord is my light and the one who saves me. So why
should I fear anyone? The Lord protects my life. So why should I be afraid?" Psalm 27:1
If we trust God more than we fear the world, we show
Him honor and love. This verse says that we will lack nothing. In
other words, we will be given everything we need in Him. Wow! Now
that’s a promise worth holding onto!
Another promise God gave us was that He would save us
from our sins. He fulfilled this promise by sending His only son Jesus to die
on the cross for our sins. We are going to be celebrating Jesus’ sacrifice over
the next few weeks as we get ready for Easter. Today we are going to talk about
the beginning of the events that led to Jesus’ resurrection.
Jesus was coming near to the end of His
ministry. As He approached Jerusalem, He asked two of his disciples to go get a
donkey and its colt. Jesus was
fulfilling prophecy. He was supposed to ride on a donkey’s colt – that means a
young donkey. Can you imagine a big important king riding on a simple little
donkey? What about the big army and the fancy horse? You see Jesus wasn’t a
normal king trying to show he was important and force everyone to serve him.
Jesus was the opposite: He came to show love and serve the people.
The disciples did what they were told to do. They
went and got the donkey and the colt. A big crowd was already showing up and
covering the street with their coats and branches from the trees. Remember that
they didn’t have paved roads back then – the roads were dirt. They were showing
their respect to Jesus by covering the road so that He wouldn’t get dirty.
As Jesus went further, all the people began to praise
Him. They said, "Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the
Lord! Hosanna, Hosanna!" The word Hosanna means save us.
There were some
men there called Pharisees (men who thought they were important; a lot of the people
listened to them). They heard the crowd praising God. They said to Jesus,v"Teacher, why don't you tell these people to stop praising you as if you
were God?" The Pharisees thought that Jesus was getting too much attention
from the people. They wanted to be the most important, but everyone was
listening to Jesus instead.
Jesus
replied, "If they were quiet now, even the rocks would cry
out!" Even the rocks knew that He was God; after all, Jesus
did make them.
Eventually
Jesus came into Jerusalem. He came to help the
people. Unfortunately, some didn't realize that He was God, and they didn't accept Him.
Today's verse:
“Tell the people of
Jerusalem,
‘Your king is coming to
you.
He is gentle and
riding on a donkey.
He is on the colt of a
donkey.’”

Supplies needed:
-Paint stirrer or Popsicle stick (depending on how big you
want to make it.)
-Green construction paper (you can use several different
shades if you like.)
-Ribbon (optional)
-Glue
1. Trace your hand several times on different pieces of
cardstock.
2. Cut out your traced hands
3. Glue cutouts to your stick
4. Tie ribbon to the bottom of the stick if you'd like.
5. Allow to dry
